Amidst recent headlines on slowing economic growth, there are still bright spots in manufacturing. The aerospace sector registered a year-on-year growth of about 10.5% in August 2019, and investment sentiments remain strong. New investments are expected to be announced at the Singapore Airshow in February next year.
Recognising that environmental sustainability is gaining traction as a core element of businesses’ long-term strategy, JTC, the National Parks’ Board (NParks), and Garden City Fund are partnering the aerospace industry, Seletar businesses, aviation enthusiasts, and surrounding residents to take collective climate action. Singapore’s first community greening programme for an industrial estate – Greening our Workplace @ Seletar Aerospace Park (GROW@SAP) was launched today.
Mr Jeffrey Lam, Deputy President, ST Engineering’s Aerospace sector said, “Dealing with the impact of climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability calls for collective and integrated action by both the public and private sectors. As a company and member of the aviation industry that is aligned with the global sustainable development agenda, we are happy to be a sponsor of JTC’s green initiative at Seletar Aerospace Park, and play our part to make a difference to the wider community, and contribute to a sustainable future for all.”
Furthering the aerospace community’s collective commitment towards enhancing sustainability, the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) (AAIS) will be initiating a new programme next year which will provide platforms for companies to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore joint initiatives to help achieve sustainability goals. Mr Ng Lang, Chief Executive Officer of JTC said, “Sustainable development is a priority for Singapore, and climate change is a serious issue that warrants immediate action. We believe the best outcome can be achieved through collective partnership, and are delighted that the aerospace industry and our larger community are stepping up and collaborating with us to make a difference in our estates.”
Seletar Aerospace Park embodies the potential of future industrial estates
GROW@SAP enhances the biophilic work-live-learn-play environment at Seletar Aerospace Park making it an attractive location for business, talent and the community. By planting more trees and intensifying greenery, more shade will be provided to cool the estate and reduce the Urban Heat Island effect, creating a more pleasant environment for the community in Seletar Aerospace Park.
The programme has raised more than $100,000 from various organizations and institutions, including aerospace companies, Seletar businesses, surrounding residents, and individuals who have a deep passion for Seletar and the aerospace industry. It covers greening efforts in Seletar Aerospace Park as well as the maintenance of the new Hampstead Wetlands Park, which JTC and NParks are developing for the community.
Clean, green and home to leading companies that adopt cutting-edge technologies for next generation aircraft platforms, Seletar Aerospace Park is a vibrant estate set against lush greenery with a network of park connectors and cycling paths. The black and white bungalows at The Oval offer a range of F&B and lifestyle options for working professionals and families in the vicinity. A vibrant space enjoyed by the business and residential communities, Seletar Aerospace Park embodies the potential of future industrial estates.
